Open Call: Contralto Soloist, Grand Concert for Brotherhood 2027

Every January, the Grand Concert for Brotherhood gathers thousands of people for free at Santiago’s Estación Mapocho to share what the market cannot sell: the experience of being part of something larger than oneself. The 2027 edition, The Music Makers, takes its name and its spirit from the work by Edward Elgar and the poem by Arthur O’Shaughnessy: a tribute to those who create and sustain the musical life of their communities, with or without recognition, with or without pay. We are looking for a contralto soloist for this seventh edition, which takes place on Friday, 8 January 2027 under the baton of Alejandra Urrutia, alongside a choir of 200 citizen voices and an orchestra working entirely free of charge.

Requirements

• Singers in the contralto range.
• Training in music or voice.

Audition repertoire

• Work: The Music Makers, Op. 69, by Edward Elgar.
• Passage: contralto solo from rehearsal number [49], Novello edition.
• Language: English.
• A collaborative pianist will be provided for the audition.

Date and venue

• Saturday, 17 October, from 10:00 to 13:00.
• Cámara Chilena de la Construcción, Apoquindo 6750, Las Condes, Santiago (Hernando de Magallanes metro station).
• Each participant is assigned an individual time slot, confirmed ahead of the audition date.

• Deadline: 30 September, 23:59 (Chile time).
• Once we receive your application, we will email you your exact time slot and any supporting materials you may need.

On the day of the audition

• Arrive 15 minutes before your time slot for check-in and vocal warm-up.
• Bring a printed copy of the score for your own use.

The Grand Concert for Brotherhood is unpaid. It is a contribution from Chile’s artists towards creating an experience of encounter through music.
